After the set, Rafe and Spence set an official date for him to perform at Bottoms Up. Rafe, Desiree and Patrice said their good-nights to Spence and stepped out into the late evening.

The moment Desiree stepped outside, that eerie sensation settled over her. She took her brother’s arm.

“Where are you ladies parked?”

“I’m right across the street,” Patrice said.

“Me, too.”

They walked with Patrice to her car.

“Take my advice,” Patrice said into Desiree’s ear as they hugged. “Tell him.”

“No,” she whispered back and kissed her cheek. “Talk to you tomorrow.”

Rafe and Desiree waited until Patrice pulled off, then walked to Desiree’s car.

“You seem a little edgy,” Rafe said as they walked to her car. “Everything okay?”

“Yes, everything is fine.” She squeezed his arm.

He glanced at her. “You know you can tell me.”

She looked up at him. “Everything is fine. Honest.”

They stopped in front of her car. “When are you coming by the house?” She disengaged the alarm.

“Soon.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.” He kissed her cheek and she got in. “Drive safely.”

“I will.” She shut the door and started the car.

Rafe turned and walked around the corner to where he was parked. Desiree thought to stop him and tell him what had transpired but changed her mind, pulled off and headed home.
